Yesterday I cooked for hours to make a side dish for our family's Christmas dinner. Strange, as these two dinner sized plates don't look like very much. Even more strange, I don't know how to spell what I made as it's a "legacy" recipe from my grandmother who did not speak a lot of English. We call them "Sauce-a-Ceddi" and, they have been a part of Christmas dinner for as long as I can remember. Usually served with raviolis or tortellini, they are super yummy. They are now sitting in my freezer along with 3 quarts of the best tomato sauce ready for dinner on December 24.

For The Foot Doc
Since the foot doc did such a good job on my bunion, I made him a pair of shoes. Well, not exactly shoes, but flip-flops. And, not exactly for him to wear...more for display. He has a mobile in his office of tiny baby shoes, and these little shoes could be added to it. At 4 inches "big," these shoes are just too cute. PS...if you know someone who would like a pair of these, let me know. They are really fun to make!

Girls Only
Blanket 26 is for girls only. It's a variation of my favorite zigzag pattern. I call it "Lavender Phase."
When I was a teenager, I wanted my bedroom painted lavender. My mother said "NO." I did however get a beautiful lavender and blue bedspread, with coordinating lavender throw rugs and lamp shade. I was a happy camper. My best friend painted an accent wall in her bedroom lavender. But, my step-niece won the grand prize. She did get her bedroom painted lavender and all the accessories to match! What a treat! This is the blanket that might help fulfill the lavender phase that most teenage girls go through.

Old "Cars"
If you read my blog, then you know I like old cars. Today we saw some very old "cars" or should I say vehicles as they were not horseless carriages. Take a look...
The driver sits in the box outside while the passengers sit in "comfort" inside the enclosed cabin. It was pulled by a team of four horses. In the background there is a green tanker with metal wheels and no explanation as to it's purpose.
This cute little two seater might have been the 1890 convertible of the day. Based on the yoke, I think this was pulled by a single horse. Notice there are no springs to make the ride more comfortable.

Blazing Glory
I just finished my 25th blanket of the year. I've named it "Blazing Glory" because its bright and beautiful...and it reminds me of fire. It's my new favorite pattern which I call "Shell and Stripe." Because it has the "stripe" row, there's texture to the blanket--it's has a good hand when you touch it. I think a young boy will like this blanket a lot.

Business Hours
I saw this sign at a local restaurant and it resonated with me. How about you?
There are days when life seems to be like this too.

Frank-n-Foot
I have good news to report on my bunion surgery of 11 days ago. The stitches were removed and according to my doc I'm healing quickly. While I took a picture of the foot, for my reference, I don't believe the picture is ready for "prime time" on my blog as it's shows I'm a "work in progress." My nephew called it "Frank-n-Foot" because it looks like I've been patched with bruises and a zipper holding it all together. I'm going to continue to wear my "booty" as it protects the foot and gives a message to others that I'm not as quick as others. I'm still using a cane to walk and I've yet to walk on the sole of my left foot as it's very tender.
Yesterday I went to my favorite store (Best Buy in case you did not know that) and actually stood for longer than 5 minutes. It was hard. I'm not yet ready to walk long distances (inside a store and back) and I'm definitely not walking 2 miles a day. That might take another 2-3 months. Next week I should be ready to teach my photography class as long as I bring a stool to sit on to rest my foot. The news is good.

Scrap Blanket
Meet the 24th blanket of the year. It's the "leftover" blanket I told you about when I finished the last blanket. it's made from the leavings of many different crochet projects. Every time I make a blanket, there's always a bit of yarn left and that leads to a dilemma...should I throw the extra yarn away, or should I save it for a scrap blanket. I have a very difficult time throwing away yarn, so the other DrC rolls tiny skeins of yarn for me and when I think there's enough, I make a blanket. In this case, the base color is beige separated by 3 rows of another color. No two blocks of color are the same. There are 16 different colors in this blanket ranging from red to white to brown to blue and green and shades in between. Leftovers and scraps are useful AND beautiful.
